History of Zoologi Museum, Bogor, Indonesia




Zoologi Museum is located in Kebun Raya Bogor, Indonesia. Kebun Raya Bogor is accessible easily to visit. This place is in the central of Bogor, Indonesia on Jalan Ir. H. Juanda No. 9 Bogor. Zoologi museum was established in 1894, The beginning of Zoologi Museum establishment was used for Zoologi Laboratory named Landbouw Zoologich Laboratorium.  Based on the idea of German Botanist, J. C. Koningsberger. It was built as a means of Laboratory Research related to argiculture and zoology.
 However, in 1906, the name was changed to Zoologich Museum and Wekplaats. In 1910 the name was changed for the second time becoming Zoologisch Museum en Laboratorium.  Between the years 1945 – 1947, this museum was well knows as Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense. Throughout history, there are possiblities of 11 times name changes. And grouped into 3 periods. First Period (1894 – 1901), Transition Period (1901 – 1986) and Expansion Period (1987 – now). Eventually until now It has become Zoologi Museum Bogor.

For 25 years long, Koningsberger had helped by P.A Ouwens conservator for collecting, organizing, studying, and informing the collection. After Koningsberger’s departure to Netherland in 1919 and the aging of P.A Ouwens, a zoology expert, Dr.K.W.Dammerman was selected to replace them. He was interested in scientific development and building the collection. The number of scientists began growing increasingly to attract each taxon attention. After Dammerman’s reign, Dr. M. A Lieftinck, an insect expert was trusted to be head of the museum from 1939 – 1954 (except during The Japanese Colony). 
The museum’s collection displayed collection rooms and occupied in 1997 and the development of grant – funded World Bank and Japan.



 The scientific collection possessed by this museum including variant categories: mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians, mollusks, insects and other invertebrates which are not mollusks and insects.
